Postcard from the Past

Postcard of the Severn Catchment Drainage Board Operations Team from 1934/1935

At the Frampton Fair 2023 we had the pleasure of meeting Andrew Bluett, who has kindly provided us with a postcard of the Severn Catchment Drainage Board operations team from 1934/1935. The gentleman is the centre of the picture is Sydney George Parker, Mr Bluett’s grandfather. The Severn Catchment Drainage Board later became Lower Severn Internal Drainage Board as we know it today.

The workers’ pay is listed at £2 per week on the reverse of the picture which was just slightly under the average wage in the 1930’s. We’re just hoping our Finance Officer doesn’t read this and start getting ideas for next years annual budget!

Please see the attached download to see the postcard.
