2015 Election

Elections for seats on the Board are carried out by nomination to a tri-annual election. If the number of candidates nominated exceeds the seats available then a poll must take place.

How do I qualify to be an Elected Member?

Qualification to be an elected Member in the Lower Severn (2005) Internal Drainage Board area requires a person to be:

a) both the owner and occupier of not less than 4 hectares

or

b) the occupier of not less than 8 hectares

or

c) the occupier of land which is of an assessable value of £30 or upwards

or 

d) the person nominated as a candidate for election by a person who is both the owner and occupier of land which is either, of not less than 4 hectares, or of an assessable value of £30 or upwards.

and

e) At the date of the election any amount demanded in respect of any drainage rate levied on that land has been paid at least one month prior to the election

How do I qualify to vote?

You will be entitled to vote provided:

1. At the date of the election any amount demanded in respect of any drainage rate levied on that land has been paid at least one month prior to the election

and

2. Your entitlement is shown in the Register of Electors as at 1 April

The Register of Electors will be available for inspection at the Board offices from 1 April.

Other members of the public living in the area are not eligible to vote. Their interests are represented by the appointed members placed on the Board by the 8 councils/unitary authorities.
